Original AC/DC Singer: 'Things Just Didn't Work Out Personality-Wise'
January 2, 2008SpiketheVein2 Radio has posted a new interview with former AC/DC singer Dave Evans. An excerpt from the chat follows:
SpiketheVein2 Radio: Many people refer back to your stint as the original lead singer of AC/DC. I've read some articles that state you have no animosity towards the band members, however, the feeling is not mutual. What is your take on what happened?
Evans: We were all young guys and full of testosterone and things just didn't work out personality-wise as does happen with most bands in the very beginning and a lot happened and quickly in those early days. I guess that I was out of my depth, too with being so abruptly thrust into the very top in the music scene. I did not have the support of family as some other members had nor the counsel that Malcolm and Angus young had from their older brother George from the '60s band, THE EASYBEATS. I was having a great time but I probably was not as astute as I should have been either with dealing with the situation around me. Also having a severe falling out with our manager didn't help. By the time I split with the band, we were onto our third bass player and drummer and third manager and I wasn't talking to the other band members or the current manager. I wasn't happy that things had deteriorated between me and the other personnel. At the time of the split, we were riding high with our single "Can I Sit Next To You, Girl?"
People also ask me about the so called "glam" period of AC/DC and we were originally a jeans and t-shirt band until Malcolm Young told us at a rehearsal, just before our single was to be released, that Angus was going to wear a schoolboy uniform and that he was going to wear a silk jumpsuit like an airman. He wanted the rest of us to think of something just as distinctive to make us look different to all the other Australian bands, especially as we were about to do a film clip of the single.
The drummer chose to look like the joker from a pack of cards with a top hat and harlequin clown outfit, the bass player decided to look like a New York motorcycle cop with jodhpurs and a crash helmet, and I decided to look like the ultimate outlandish rock star like a lot of the English bands, i.e. SLADE and ROD STEWART.
We also had other outfits too. Angus had a Zorro outfit that he wore on several occasions. The only one to keep the "glam" outfit to this day is Angus who still wears the now famous schoolboy outfit. This worked as a treat for us and "Can I Set Next To You Girl?" rocketed up the charts.

Rockinbones.net conducted an interview with Dave Evans on September 22, 2007. Watch the 11-minute chat below.
Dave Evans recently inked a deal with Destroy All Records. The singer's current CD, "Sinner" — which originally came out in 2004 — was made available on September 25 through all "proper" distribution channels.
Evans was a member of AC/DC from the band's inception in 1973 until 1974. Following his departure from AC/DC, Dave Evans formed the wild hedonistic rock band RABBIT, Melbourne '80s rock outfit DAVE EVANS AND THUNDER DOWN UNDER, and lastly DAVE EVANS AND HOT COCKEREL. Dave Evans has also toured as a solo act, and in 2004 released his current album, "Sinner", on Germany's Cultural Minority record label. In 2005, Dave Evans toured across Holland, Germany and Switzerland with the renowned southern rock band MOLLY HATCHET.
"Sinner", which was recorded in Newcastle, Australia and mixed in Germany, was originally issued internationally in February 2006 on Heart Attack Records.
